RULE OF THIRDS
10-23-18
Liberty Bay, Poulsbo, WA
ISO 400 79 mm f/25 1/100 sec
I shot this setting because I liked the muted colors against the foggy background. I chose it to represent Rule of Thirds because each section was equally represented when I laid a grid over the photo.

FILLING THE FRAME
10-23-19
Statue of King Olaf, Poulsbo, WA
ISO 200 47 mm f/7.1 1/80 sec
This is a portion of a large statue in Poulsbo, WA, of the Viking King Olaf of Norway. I chose this to represent Filling the Frame because of all the textures represented.
VIEWPOINT
10-23-18
Sluy’s Bakery, Poulsbo, WA
ISO 400 55 mm f/8 1/100 sec
This photo was taken in front of Sluy's Bakery. I was trying take a photo of the pastries, but noticed the reflection of the man looking in the window. His reflection gives the illusion he is on the inside looking out instead of vise versa. As such, I chose this image to represent Viewpoint.

HORIZON
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
ISO 400 55 mm f/20 1/100 sec
My daughter was very sick. While I was out shooting this assignment, the doctor's office called and they could see her immediately. I dropped everything to take her in. I had photos for every category except Horizon. As we got out of the car at his office, this scene was in front of me. I grabbed my camera a took several shots. I thought the fall colors and angles of the horizon beautifully represented this category. (My daughter wound up in the hospital from the doc's office. She is mostly recovered and doing well.)

FRAME WITHIN A FRAME
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
ISO 400 60 mm f/13 1/100 sec
This is a bench in downtown Poulsbo, WA. I squatted down and took the shot from one end of the bench towards the other end. I liked how the arm rest framed the pewter viking symbols.
For this practical, we were given 5 categories to shoot examples. To achieve this, we were supposed to pick a location and take photos of each example. Poulsbo, WA, is a small town on an inlet of Pudget Sound. It was founded by Norwegians and continues to carry that theme through today. I did not have to walk far to get a wealth of photos. I enjoyed this shoot. It felt like a comfortable, natural way, and place to take pictures publicly.
We are still in the process of working the technical side of our cameras. While the shoot was easy, it still took time to accomplish as I labored through working with my camera on each shot. We are just being introduced to Lightroom Classic. We were not allowed to crop or do much editing to our photos. It was also our first peer review. No one was exactly sure what we were supposed to do and how the rubrics page worked. My partner was complimentary and offered a few suggestions. The assessment from my instructor helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses.

NAUTICAL STORE FRONT
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 55 mm, f/4, 1/100 sec)
This was a 1 shot, random photo. I really liked it but didn't know which category to place it.

MARKET
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 75 mm, f/9, 1/100 sec)
This is one of the first photos I took for this shoot. It's rusty troughs leaning together against the store exterior.

HOUSE CHURCH
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 90 mm, f/22, 1/100 sec)
I considered this one for my Viewpoint. This is looking up a hill at a church, but there is a red house between me and it. It looks like the house is a part of the church or at infused.

VIKINGS ASHORE
10-23-18
Boehms Chocolates, Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 24 mm, f/11, 1/100 sec)
This is a mural on the Boehms Chocolate store. I considered this for Frame within a Frame or Rule of Thirds.

MAN OVERBOARD
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 55 mm, f/11, 1/100 sec)
While I was taking pictures of the chocolate store mural, this man ran up and begged me to take his picture. He was just too adorable and the color of his clothing added to the picture.

HOMELESS BIKE
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 55 mm, f/11, 1/100 sec)
A homeless man sat near this bike. When he saw me walking past, he took off and hid for reasons only known to him. However his bicycle amused me so I took photos of it.

BASKET OF COLOR
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 55 mm, f/10, 1/00 sec)
This was shot outside of a craft shop. They had a basket of yard for sale out front, next to a US flag themed bench. I kneeled down, rested the camera on the seat of the bench and shot towards the yarn.

INSIDE OUT
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 55 mm, f/5.6, 100 sec)
This is a neon espresso sign. It's shot from the inside of a window looking out. I considered this for the Viewpoint.

NATURAL FRAME
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 100 mm, f/15, 1/100 sec)
I used a hole in branches to capture the horizon beyond. I'd hoped it was more background and less trees, but didn't get that outcome.

WINDOW DANCING
10-23-18
Poulsbo, WA
(ISO 400, 79 mm, f/14, 1/100 sec)
All over downtown Poulsbo, there are European style buildings and decorations. These faux window paintings are ever on almost all of the buildings. I wanted to represent that art form in my photos.
This photo shoot was fun, but time consuming. I was new to the city of Poulsbo, so it gave me a chance to explore the town on several levels. I did not lack for things to photograph. I liked several of the photos in this section, but just did not know where to place them in the full assignment.
I liked several of these photos better than the ones I selected. I felt they didn't fully represent the assignment at large. When I got the feedback, the same photos I used as "also rans" their their favorites. This caused me to second guess myself. What this assignment did do was encourage me to think outside the box in what may be photographic worthy.
