This man loves, loves Blue Bell Ice Cream. This photo was taken indoors with ceiling lights. I did very little touch up.

A BOOK AND HIS DOG

Silverdale, WA
ISO 200 21 mm f/4.5 1/6 sec
Dale is an avid reader. Our dog Sophee enjoys following him wherever he goes. This pic was taken on a closed in porch. The lighting was natural, but not direct. Other than making sure the WB was ok, this photo is relatively untouched.

FOOTBALL

My husband has a very athletic background and likes to stay in shape. It amused me that, even over the holidays, he found a way to workout and watch a game. The fluorescent lights washed out the image, so I had to make several adjustments in Lightroom Classic. I accented the yellows and blues to bring out the colors. I worked on details to keep the blur down on his feet because he was peddling.

HIS FAITH

Peace Lutheran Church, Bremerton, WA
ISO 200 37 mm f/4.5 1/6 sec
My husband is a retired military chaplain who is now serving as the sole pastor at Peace Lutheran in Bremerton, WA. I softened up this photo to reflect the setting. There was little to no touchups.
The assignment was to follow someone around over the Thanksgiving break and take photos of them. My husband has quite the animated, outgoing personality so he was my easy choice of who to stalk. The assignment itself was not complicated. The most difficult part of the task was capturing images that were naturally occurring and contained substance. I had a wealth of photos to choose from. A few were good, but most, not-so-much. With that in mind, I chose to focus on his passions.
This was the first assignment where I felt I was starting to wrap myself around the concept of white balancing. I had gone through the motions, but nothing about it was clicking. I was just doing it by rote. It was pointed out the "Football" photo did not necessarily fit in with the rest, but, for me, it highlighted two of his passions in one photo. Looking back, though, I would have continued to work on the editing of the photo to bring it more in line with the rest of the set. My hindrance is the lack of familiarity and skill in Lightroom. I'm still figuring out the settings on my camera and how they work cohesively, so trying to jump into learning Lightroom has been a steep learning curve.
