About

My Background

Julee Brynestad

My name is Julee Brynestad. I am married to the amazing Dale, 38 years and counting. We have 6 children; 4 sons of our own and 2 beautiful daughters we adopted in 2006 at the ages of 8 and 11. We have 2 beautiful daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, and the 2 greatest grandsons in the history of the world. I'm a stay-at-home mom who has home educated all 6 of our children. While I have lived in several states, anyone who knows me knows I'm a Texas girl, born and bred. My faith and family are my greatest passions.

I began my college journey at the University of Arkansas in Ft. Smith, but it was derailed in the mid 1990's when my husband returned to school to get his Master's. Now that my children are grown, I decided to complete my degree. I am doing that through Harvard Extension School, Cambridge, MA. Last fall, 2018, my advisor encouraged me to step back and take an elective. Photography was my choice.

I've always enjoyed taking pictures. I started out with my mom's box Brownie Camera. I progressed to point and shoot. It felt so modern and was easy. Then my beloved husband bought  a DSLR camera for me for our 30th anniversary. I was so very excited and took it on our Mediterranean cruise to document everything. I quickly leaned I had no clue what I was doing. Soon thereafter, my aspirations faded and I resorted to, yes, my camera phone. It was simple and always at hand. It wasn't until I took the above picture of my 2 daughters that I realized a photo could tell a story.  It was because of that picture, I chose the class and persevered. I dusted off my ol' DSLR and this website is my journey. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

My camera: Canon EOS Rebel XS

My lenses: Canon Zoom 18-55 mm and Canon Zoom 55-250 mm

Photography as DOCUMENTATION

Square of Miracles and Tower of Pisa: Pisa, Italy 5/19/14 (ISO 200, 29 mm, f/14, 1/400 sec)

I love to travel locally, nationally, and internationally. I've visited 47 of 50 states, Africa, Central America, island nations, plus lived and traveled in Europe. Documenting my adventures through photography has always been a passion.

Sharing Stories

This Crib Can't Hold Me: Bryce Brynestad, Huntsville, AL, 3/1/14 (ISO 400, 55 mm, f/5.6, 1/60 sec)

I love pictures that tell stories. It is the biggest prize to catch that one moment what stands out and draws you into the image. Posed pictures are for posterity, but those candid moments are captured for the ages and what grabs my heart.
